SVR has a
long and storied history. Well, perhaps not as long as suggested by the
above drummers, but certainly long by some standards. As to "stories"
there are - like in the Naked City, the City of Angels - millions of them.
This part of the Website is dedicated to our attempt to capture some of the
region's history. We hope it will not be too embarrassing to the long-time
SVRers, entertaining to the "younger pups" and intriguing to the newest members
- or potential members. As said other places, "It's not just the cars, it's
the people!" and no part of the Website punctuates that statement more than this. Unless otherwise noted, the material in this section has been authored by Larry Wilson, a Member of PCA since 1961, and SVR's unofficial, official historian. (Probably coming as no surprise to anyone, that's Larry to the right "communing" with his 1955 Speedster.) Knowing Larry isn't the only one with a memory, if other Members have something from the past they would like to see on this page in the future, please send it to me. The first item below is a short stroll through the beginnings of SVR. The second brings you highlights from the first 25 Years of CRAB. The third chronicles the history of the Annual Charity Auction. The fourth item is a series of "Drifting Back Articles" Larry has written for The DRIFTER since 2001. They include snippets about people and events from 30-, 20- and 10-years past so we can compare current SVR activities to days of "old." So, relax and drift back through cyberspace and all the mysterious dynamics and interdependencies of both it and the human interactions that give SVR life and return to early times - times when Porsche had fewer models, the prices were in (dare I say it?) only in the four-digits and SVR was born from the heart of an elementary school. And, if you enjoy these works of love by Larry, please take a moment and thank him for distilling the essence of SVR from the sands, time and dust of history and recording it for use by SVR Members, private detectives and/or the World Court, The Hague, Netherlands - as appropriate.
